Description
Priyanka Jarkiholi, campaigning for the Congress party, defeated Annasaheb Jolle, the current MP for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in the Chikkodi district, a significant victory for her. This victory is significant because the BJP won all but one of the seats in the Mumbai–Karnataka region.
Historical Achievement
With her recent election victory, Priyanka smashed numerous records. She is one of the youngest members of Parliament, at 27 years and one month. She is also the first woman of tribal origin to gain a seat in Karnataka's parliament from an open district. This is comparable to what Kotturu Hariharappa Ranganath performed as a Lok Sabha member representing Chitradurga from 1984 to 1989.
Chikkodi's Political Landscape
Chikkodi has a history of unplanned elections. In 1996, Ratnamala Pol Savanur, a law professor and Janata Party candidate, defeated B Shankaranand, an MP and state minister at the time. She did not, however, run again in the 1998 election. Following this, Ramesh Jigajinagi won three further elections, each as a candidate for a different party.

Priyanka Jarkiholi is from a politically strong family and has a large number of shares in companies in the tourism, sugar, mining, and infrastructure industries. She also holds an MBA. She is a strong supporter of increasing women's participation in politics and government. During an interview, Priyanka stated that women must demonstrate their abilities through their profession.
