Description
The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) held a credential distribution event for the first batch of BS (Data Science and Applications). This event had 177 graduates.
The certificate distribution ceremony is notable since the first group of 10 BS graduates received their Course Completion Certificates. According to the institute, these students took the fast route and completed the credit requirements of the 4-year BS program in three years.
IIT Madras says that this is the world's first four-year BS degree in Data Science and Applications. This program allows students to exit earlier at the foundation, diploma, or BSc degree level. During the event, 26 students who elected to exit the programme with a BSc in Programming and Data Science received their degrees. Another 120 students got provisional BSc degree diplomas while still pursuing their BS degree.
In addition, 122 students received their Diplomas in Data Science, 19 received their Diplomas in Programming, and 10 received both the Diploma in Data Science and the Diploma in Programming. A total of 411 students were awarded provisional Double Diplomas, allowing them to continue their studies at the degree level.
According to IIT Madras, the BS programme now has over 29,000 students enrolled, and over 25,000 applications have been received for the May 2024 term. The next application window for the BS in Data Science and BS in Electronic Systems program will open on June 15, 2024.
