Description

Following the Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) forecasts of a strong heat wave, the Punjab government has decided to prolong the summer break of all schools, whether government, aided, or non-aided. The schools will be closed from on, May 21, till June 30.

On May 19, the Punjab government issued an advice regarding the school schedule. Schools were advised to operate between 7:00 AM and 12:00 PM. However, the government reversed its decision and stated that schools will remain closed on May 21 owing to the severe temperatures.

According to Kamal Kishor Yadav, secretary of the state education department, Punjab schools' summer holidays have been pushed due to the state's orange notice for severe heat waves. This decision was taken after receiving comments from several districts regarding the students' difficulties due to adverse weather conditions. According to the official update, schools that were previously set to begin their summer break on June 1 will now begin their holidays earlier.

Earlier, the Rajasthan government declared a summer vacation for students from May 17 to June 30. They also warned the schools not to offer any additional classes during this time.
