Flying Wedge Defence, a Bengaluru-based defense and aerospace technology company, has recently unveiled the FWD-200B, India's first indigenous bomber unmanned aircraft. Founder Suhas Tejaskanda emphasized the huge cost decrease compared to overseas rivals, with the FWD-200B priced at under Rupees 25 crores, a fraction of the cost of similar US vehicles. This affordability demonstrates India's commitment to self-sufficiency in defence technologies.
Advanced Capabilities
The FWD-200B has a payload capacity of 100 kg and is classified as a MALE Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle with medium-altitude, long-endurance capability. Its integration with optical surveillance payloads and precision air attack weaponry provides versatility in a variety of combat circumstances.
Performance Specifications
The FWD-200B boasts remarkable performance characteristics, including a top speed of 200 kts/370 kmph and an endurance capacity of 12-20 hours. Furthermore, its maximum takeoff weight of 498 kg and a ground control station range of 200 km increase operating flexibility.
Path To Certification And Global Reach
The corporation intends to conduct extensive flight testing before receiving certification from the Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC). Once certified, the FWD-200B seeks to be integrated into Indian forces while also pursuing export options, particularly in countries where cost-prohibitive alternatives are not feasible.
