Description
The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), which was certified a deemed-to-be university earlier this year, will begin providing postgraduate degree courses in the 2024-25 academic year. IIMC currently exclusively provides postgraduate diploma courses in journalism and mass communication-related subjects.
IIMC Additional Director-General Nimish Rustagi informed that two Master of Arts (MA) degrees in Media Business Studies and Strategic Communication will be launched in August.
According to officials, these two MA courses would have 40 seats each at IIMC's New Delhi campus. IMC, an autonomous entity under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, operates five regional centers.
Aside from the 40 seats allocated to each of the two courses, special quotas for experienced professionals and defence forces would be available, with a course fee of roughly Rs 2.4 lakh for one academic year, according to officials.
The Masters degree in Media Business Studies (MA-MBS) is designed to address the demand for competent media managers, according to the organizers. Media organisations have grown in complexity over time, and there is a need for specialists who understand the business in the face of rapid technological advancements, according to the officials.
The MA in Strategic Communication, on the other hand, will train professionals to manage communications that help nations and organizations achieve their strategic goals, according to officials.
This programme intends to produce qualified StratCom specialists who can work in governments, the public and private sectors, think tanks, and worldwide companies in the field.
