Thus, the Pandit Lacchu Maharaj Ballet Foundation has decided to award ten individuals this year. Due to COVID-19, no awards for 2020 have been announced. The prize recipients are-

Reviving A Celebrated Tradition

The decision to commemorate these outstanding individuals was made at a meeting presided over by Professor. Mandavi Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Bhatkhande Sanskriti University in Lucknow. The secretary of the Pt. Lachhu Maharaj Ballet Foundation and Pandit Lachhu Maharaj's senior disciple, Kumkum Adarsh, attended the conference.

Honoring A Decade Of Excellence

The Pandit Lacchu Maharaj Ballet Foundation has opted to honor ten individuals this year, as the prize was not presented after 2014. The prestigious recipients, who cover the years 2015 to 2024, represent the pinnacle of artistic brilliance in categories like as Kathak, Bharatanatyam, and cinema.

Celebrating Kathak Legends

Among the recipients are renowned Kathak performers Uma Sharma (2015), Rama Vaidyanathan (2016), Uma Dogra (2017), and Pandit Rajendra Gangani (2024). Hema Malini (2018) and Saira Banu (2019), both accomplished Kathak dancers, will be recognized for their outstanding accomplishments.

Other prominent winners are Sandhaya Puricha, Chairman of Sangeet Natak Akademi (2018), a Bharatanatyam exponent; Dr. Malabika Mitra (2021), a Kathak master; Prachi Shah (2022), a Kathak dancer and film actress; and Ashim Bandhu Bhattacharya (2023), another Kathak exponent.

The Pandit Lacchu Maharaj Award is named after the renowned Kathak performer Lacchu Maharaj (1907-1978), born Baij Nath Prasad in Lucknow. He is most known for choreographing Kathak dance scenes in classic films like as Mahal, Mughal-e-Azam, and Pakeezah, as well as several ballets.
