Description
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has named Pakistan cricket icon Sana Mir as its ambassador for the forthcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier. Mir, who has represented Pakistan in 226 international games, including 137 as captain, would add tremendous knowledge to the tournament.
The Qualifiers Tournament
The Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier will feature 10 teams competing for two coveted slots in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 in Bangladesh. The teams have been drawn into two groups of five, with the top two from each group qualifying for the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals will qualify for the T20 World Cup later this year.
Sana Mir’s Delight
Sana Mir expressed her delight at being named the ambassador, stating, “Other than the big qualification opportunity for two teams, the tournament will provide excellent exposure to the Associate Member teams and their players.”
She further added, “The women’s game has become more and more competitive in recent years, and the 10 nations involved in the Qualifier possess a number of quality players.”
Sharing Expertise And Experience
Sana Mir, a veteran of Pakistan cricket, has competed in various ICC competitions, including qualifying events. Her best performance came in the 2008 ICC Women's Qualifying Series for the Women's Cricket World Cup, when Pakistan advanced to the finals and Sana was named joint Player of the Series.
Sana hopes to share her knowledge and experience with the players during the Qualifier, advising them on how to handle the pressure of such tournaments and what it takes to achieve.
