The Prime Minister of India recently addressed the 6th International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI), which was organized by CDRI.
About The Coalition For Disaster Resilient Infrastructure
It is a worldwide collaboration among national governments, UN agencies and programmes, multilateral development banks and finance mechanisms, the corporate sector, and academic and knowledge organizations.
It discusses the issues of establishing resilience into infrastructure systems and the development that goes along with it.
It was launched at the 2019 United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York.
Objective
It aims to strengthen the resilience of infrastructure systems to climate and disaster hazards, ensuring sustainable development.
It aims to rapidly expand the building and retrofit of resilient infrastructure in response to the Sustainable building Goals' imperatives of increasing universal access to essential services, allowing prosperity, and creating decent jobs.
It serves as an inclusive multi-stakeholder platform led and administered by national governments for the generation and exchange of information on many areas of disaster resilience infrastructure.
It brings together a diverse set of stakeholders to design a framework to help countries improve their infrastructure development capacities, systems, standards, rules, and practices in accordance with their risk context and economic demands.
Members
Since its inception, CDRI has welcomed 39 countries, seven international organizations, and two private sector groups.
International organisations include the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the World Bank Group, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), the European Union, the European Investment Bank, and the Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies (ARISE).
