The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has named Gita Sabharwal of India as the new UN Resident Coordinator in Indonesia. Sabharwal began her new role on April 22, bringing nearly three decades of experience in development, including assistance for climate transition, sustainable peace, governance, and social policy, as well as utilizing digital technologies and data to accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
An Experienced Development Professional
Sabharwal's nomination as UN Resident Coordinator in Indonesia, which has been approved by the host government, follows her prior duties as UN Resident Coordinator in Thailand and Peacebuilding and Development Adviser for the United Nations in Sri Lanka. Before joining the UN, she was the Asia Foundation's Deputy Country Representative for the Maldives and Sri Lanka, as well as the Poverty and Policy Adviser for the UK Department for International Development in India and Vietnam.
