About Mount Erebus
It is Earth's most southerly active volcano. It is located on Ross Island, Antarctica.
It is a stratovolcano with conical shape and layers of hardened lava, tephra, and volcanic ash.
Mount Erebus is well-known for its persistent lava lake.
The lake has been active at least since 1972, making it one of the world's rare long-lived lava lakes.
It is continually churning and occasionally spewing molten rock bombs during Strombolian eruptions.
Because the volcano is remote, experts utilize satellites to monitor it.
About Stratovolcano
It's a tall, steep, cone-shaped volcano. Compared to flat shield volcanoes, they have taller peaks. They are usually found above subduction zones, and they are frequently part of vast volcanically active areas, such as the Ring of Fire that surrounds much of the Pacific Ocean.
Strato Volcanoes make up around 60% of the Earth's volcanoes and often emit andesite and dacite lavas, which are colder and more viscous than basalt.
These more viscous lavas allow gas pressures to rise to elevated levels. As a result, these volcanoes frequently erupt with tremendous force.
They are often composed of roughly half lava and half pyroclastic debris, and the layering of these products lends them the other popular term, composite volcanoes.
Stratovolcanoes typically have a small crater at their peak.
