Description
The Delhi Court denied a petition to rewrite the Chartered Accountants (CA) intermediate and final exams. CA aspirants filed this petition, demanding that the court order the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI) to postpone the CA 2024 May exams.
The court while rejecting the plea cited that no such rule exists that prevents an organisation from holding examinations during polls. “This court is surprised that such a request has been made,” said the single bench comprising of Justice C Hari Shankar during the hearing. The bench further mentioned that the petition is bereft of substance.
The court also stated that no CA Exam dates conflict with voting dates, and students who have difficulty appearing for the exams may avoid from taking it. The court instructed candidates to balance their preparation if they wished to vote.

However, CA candidates are unhappy about these dates. The petitioners have raised a number of concerns about the May exams, including a lack of transportation and the use of loudspeakers during electioneering.
Child activist Anubha Srivastava Sahai represented the students in court. Some practicing accountants are also backing the students in their struggle against the ICAI for changing the dates.
