Description
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) recently issued a guideline requiring all e-commerce enterprises to properly categorize drinking products. In its statement, the FSSAI prohibits E-Commerce platforms from referring to cereal, dairy, or malt-based beverages as "energy drinks" or "health drinks." Within the context of the country's food regulations, the directive seeks the correct and relevant definition of "Health Drinks".
FSSAI Regulates Online Food And Beverage Sales
The Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006 defines food safety as an assurance that food is safe for human consumption and all of its intended purposes. In this regard, FSSAI defines food safety in terms of handling mechanisms, preparation processes, and storage facilities in ways that prevent the start of foodborne illnesses. Beverages and bars are also included in the advisory to ensure compliance with these food standards.
Challenges To Enforcing Online Food Safety Regulations
Food safety procedures have significant hurdles due to toxic conditions that can contaminate food. At the time of food delivery, standards indicate that all food items should have a minimum shelf life of 30%, which equates to 45 days before the actual expiry date. Restaurants, caterers, and internet food delivery services continue to be subject to separate laws. In this case, only freshly cooked meals are acceptable for delivery.
The President of India approved food safety legislation in 2006, and it became a published act from that point forward. All food facilities, including restaurants and e-commerce delivery agents, have guidelines that are periodically refreshed. Online food delivery firms follow strict guidelines in order to exclude unregistered restaurants from their lists. These regulations also cover the packaging and labeling of food goods.
