Hume, a New York-based research lab and technology startup, recently launched the 'first conversational AI with emotional intelligence'.
About Hume AI
It's the world's first emotionally intelligent speech AI. It accepts live audio input and delivers both generated audio and transcripts enhanced with vocal expression measurements.
It is essentially an API driven by its own empathetic large language model (eLLM). This eLLM supposedly understands and emulates speech tones and word emphasis to improve human-AI conversations.
It is trained on human reactions to optimize for pleasant emotions such as happiness and satisfaction. EVI will continue to learn from its users' reactions.
EVI enables a number of new skills by processing speech's melody, rhythm, and timbre, such as knowing when to speak and producing more compassionate language with the appropriate tone of voice.
About Large Language Model
It is a type of artificial intelligence (AI) program that can recognize and generate text, among other tasks.
They are trained on massive amounts of data, hence the word "large". They are based on machine learning, specifically a sort of neural network known as the transformer model.
