Daniel Kahneman, born on March 5, 1934, in Tel Aviv, died recently at the age of 90. His family, originally from Lithuania, traveled to France before relocating to Palestine following WWII. Kahneman earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Hebrew University in Jerusalem in 1954 and his doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley in 1961.

Work In Behavioral Economics And The Nobel Prize

Kahneman, together with his collaborator Amos Tversky, established the area of behavioral economics. Their innovative research questioned established economic techniques, saying that humans are not always entirely rational and self-interested, and that mental biases might affect their decisions. This paper earned Kahneman the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2002.

After teaching at Hebrew University, Kahneman joined Princeton University in 1993 as a psychology professor and taught at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
