The Tamil Nadu government worked with the Ministry of Education to implement PM SHRI schools

The Tamil Nadu government has decided to execute the PM SHRI Schools (PM Schools for Rising India) initiative after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education, Government of India. This project attempts to improve the state's educational quality while also aligning with the National Education Policy 2020 objectives.

Scheme Initiation

• The Government of India launched it on September 7, 2022, following Union Cabinet approval.

School selection criteria

• More than 14,500 current schools across the country will be classified as PM SHRI Schools.

• Eligible schools are those controlled by the Centre/State/UT Governments/local self-governments and have the UDISE+ code.

Duration and Funding

• Operational from 2022-23 to 2026-27.

• The total budget is Rs 27,360 crore, with the central government paying Rs 18,128 crore.

• Showcase every facet of the National Education Policy 2020.

• Serve as examples for other educational institutions to follow.

Leadership and mentoring

• Provide leadership in their communities and mentor other schools.

Environmentally Friendly Infrastructure

• Create schools that incorporate solar lighting, water harvesting, and conservation measures.

Industry Integration

• Link the curriculum to Sector Skill Councils and local industries to improve employability and provide more work possibilities.
