Poshan Pakhwada will take place across the country from March 9 to March 23, 2024, organized by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. This 15-day celebration is intended to raise awareness about nutrition, eating choices, and women's health.

Focus Areas For Poshan Pakhwada 2024

The primary focal areas for events and awareness during Poshan Pakhwada 2024 will be-

• Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi (PBPB) – Promoting better Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE)

• Tribal, Traditional, Regional, Local dietary practices – Sensitizing about nutrition

• Health of pregnant women & Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices

Other Major Themes Are

• Improving nutrition with Mission Life (water conservation and rainwater gathering)

• Promoting Millets and Poshan Vatikas (Kitchen Gardens) for Sustainable Food Systems

• Adopting healthy lifestyles via Ayush practices

• Focus on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and diarrhea management.

• Test, treat, and discuss anemia.

• Swasth Balak Spardha (SBS) will promote frequent growth monitoring of children at Anganwadi Centres (AWCs).

Previous Poshan Pakhwadas

• Over 4 crore sensitization activities were carried out during the most recent Poshan Pakhwada, which took place between March and April 2023. These aimed to promote Shree Anna (enriched rice), millets for nutrition, Swasth Balak Spardha, and Saksham Anganwadis.

• Since the commencement of the POSHAN Abhiyaan in 2018, over 90 crore sensitization activities have been registered throughout 5 Poshan Pakhwadas and 6 Poshan Maahs (months).

Objectives Of Poshan Pakhwada

• Key objectives include establishing nutrition-related behavioral change at the individual and community levels through Jan Bhagidari (public engagement).

• The Pakhwada's goal is to enhance nutrition awareness and encourage healthy eating habits through "Jan Andolan and Jan Bhagidari" (public movement and participation).

• PM Narendra Modi's Poshan Abhiyaan, started in 2018, has played an important role in guaranteeing public participation and bringing the nutrition debate to the forefront.
