Description

Shimla, a gorgeous town, will host the first-ever Asian River Rafting Championships, which will be officially launched on March 4th, 2024, by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

Competition And Collaboration On Water

  • The competition will take place on the Sutlej River in Basantpur in the Sunni area from March 4th to 9th, 2024.

  • Approximately 20 national and international teams are competing, representing Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Iran, Iraq, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Indonesia.

Promoting Adventure Tourism

Chief Minister Sukhu reaffirmed the government's commitment to developing adventure tourism in the state. He cited various recent projects, including-

  • The successful river rafting marathon was held at Nadaun, Hamirpur district.

  • The paragliding championship was hosted last year in Junga, Shimla district, in collaboration with a commercial firm.

Beyond Competition: Opportunity And Growth

The Chief Minister emphasized the greater benefit of hosting such events, which goes beyond the domain of competition-

  • Boosting tourism- These events draw people and produce cash for the region.

  • Creating jobs- Hosting and organizing adventure sports events provides work chances for local inhabitants.

The Asian River Rafting Championships highlight not just the thrill and athleticism of the sport, but also the potential for adventure tourism to benefit economic development and community well-being in Shimla and beyond.
