Description
In a huge achievement for India's defense sector, the Adani Group has opened the Ammunition & Missiles Complex in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. This building, owned by Adani Defence, represents the first phase of the state's military corridor and is dedicated to the valiant soldiers of the Balakot strike.
Key Highlights
Inaugration- Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Chief of Army Staff Gen Manoj Pande opened the complex.
Job Creation- The complex is estimated to create around 4,000 jobs, with a substantial multiplier effect for MSMEs and the local ecosystem.
Investment- Adani Defence intends to invest more than Rs 3000 crore on the complex, demonstrating India's progress toward self-reliance and technological advancement in defence.
Facility Details
Size- Covering 500 acres, the complex will be one of South Asia's largest integrated ammunition manufacturing plants.
Product Range- It will manufacture small, medium, and large calibre ammunition to meet the needs of the Indian Armed Forces, paramilitary forces, and police.
Current Output- The factory has already begun manufacturing of small calibre ammunition, with an initial output of 150 million rounds, which meets 25% of India's yearly requirement.
Strategic Partnerships
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)- In 2022, the Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Authority (UPIDA) inked MoUs with Adani Aerospace and Defence, among other companies, to create Kanpur as South Asia's main production base for arms and ammunition.
Expansion intentions- Adani Defence System and Technologies Limited (ADSTL) purchased 202 hectares of property and announced intentions to build four production units equipped with cutting-edge technology to create small and medium calibre ammunition.
