Description

The Great Lakes Institute of Management in Chennai has launched the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) course, which is designed to provide aspiring scholars with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in academia and research.

The FPM was officially launched by renowned economist Doctor C Rangarajan, the 19th RBI Governor, and Professor Suresh Ramanathan, Dean and Principal of Great Lakes Institute of Management in Chennai.

The FPM will provide students with a one-of-a-kind learning experience, guided by world-class faculty at Great Lakes and mentored by leading international faculty from the United States and Europe.

Students will also gain a thorough understanding of core disciplines such as economics, psychology, and statistics, as well as master cutting-edge research methods such as experimental design, machine learning, and econometric modeling.

Doctor Rangarajan, who attended the event as the chief guest, emphasized that research is as important as the dissemination of knowledge. He said, “An institution is justified by not only what is conveyed through existing stock of knowledge but also how it creates and grows new knowledge. I am happy Great Lakes Institute of Management Chennai has taken a bold stride towards this goal.”

Doctor Suresh Ramanathan, Dean and Principal of Great Lakes Institute of Management, emphasized the importance of putting India on the global research map and stated that the FPM will tap into a global network of highly accomplished scholars, resulting in highly impactful research.

Professor Vidya Mahambare, Union Bank Chair Professor of Economics and Director- Research at Great Lakes who helms FPM, said that “the program is designed to empower aspiring researchers with a comprehensive curriculum and world-class mentorship.”

According to Professor Mahambare, the program provides a full tuition fee waiver as well as an additional stipend to help aspiring scholars with their research and living expenses.

There are two phases to the FPM course-

  • Phase 1 lasts one to two years and lays the groundwork for a robust research portfolio. Students participate in an immersive curriculum covering various management domains, culminating in the creation and presentation of two research papers, which are evaluated by the entire faculty.

  • Phase 2 lasts three to five years after the second-year paper is defended, and it is during this time that students begin their doctoral dissertation journey. They collaborate closely with faculty advisors and a dedicated committee to refine their research topic, create a formal proposal, and defend their dissertation, culminating.

Gautam Lakhamraju, COO and Admissions Director at Great Lakes, stated that 5-6 scholars with demonstrated research potential will be selected for the Doctoral Program in the first year. Candidates will be chosen through a rigorous selection process that takes into account competitive test scores as well as academic and professional backgrounds.

Students will be accepted after a rigorous admission process that includes competitive exams such as JRF(NET)/CAT/XAT/GMAT/GRE as well as a comprehensive profile-based assessment.
