The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani inaugurated BITS Design School (BITSDES) in Mumbai on February 15.
BITS Design School will launch a four-year, residential bachelor of design (honours) program in the academic year 2024-25, followed by a master's degree program and a faculty development program for design educators in the following two years.
Admissions to the new design school will open on February 26, 2024, for the foundation class, which will be taught by worldwide visiting professors as well as a prominent Indian faculty trained at the world's top design institutions. In the second year of the degree, students can choose to specialize in one of five streams: Physical Product Design, Digital Product Design (UI/UX), Human Centred Design, Experience Design, or Visual Design.
Graduates from this new institute will be prepared with a set of transdisciplinary and in-demand competencies, preparing them to take on C-Suite positions as their careers progress. Meritorious students will get considerable scholarships to ensure access and diversity in the cohort.
The BITS Design School curriculum was co-designed and will be reviewed annually by Aalto University in Finland, which is rated sixth internationally in the subject of Art and Design according to QS Rankings.
The BITS Design School, BITS School of Management, and BITS Law School will be housed on a world-class, completely residential permanent campus. It is being built on 63 acres in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
