The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has appointed Mio Oka as its new Country Director for India, succeeding Takeo Konishi. Ms. Oka brings approximately 30 years of professional experience, including over 18 years with ADB, to her new position. Key Responsibilities
Ms. Oka, as the new Country Director, will be in charge of ADB's operations in India, as well as cultivating relations with the government and other development partners. She will oversee the implementation of the ADB's country partnership plan for India, which aims to catalyze robust, climate-resilient, and inclusive private-sector-led growth. The strategy seeks to expedite structural transformation, promote climate-resilient green growth, and increase social and economic inclusion in India.
Background And Experience
Ms. Oka, a Japanese national, has extensive experience in development finance and project management. Since 2005, she has worked at ADB in a variety of roles, including President's Advisor and Director of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Before joining ADB, she worked for Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency Bangladesh Office. Ms. Oka has a master's degree in social policy and planning for developing nations from the London School of Economics and a bachelor's degree in development studies and politics from the University of London.

In 2023, the ADB contributed $2.59 billion in sovereign lending to India, as well as technical support and grants.
