The Union Minister for Women and Child Development recently announced the establishment of One Stop Centres to assist women who have experienced violence in over 700 districts across the country.
The One Stop Centre Scheme
It is a centrally sponsored scheme developed by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD).
Goals
To provide comprehensive support and assistance to women affected by violence in both private and public settings under one roof.
To provide immediate, emergency, and non-emergency access to a variety of services under one roof, including medical, legal, psychological, and counseling support, in order to combat all forms of violence against women.
Target Audience
It supports all women, including girls under the age of 18, who have been victims of violence, regardless of caste, class, religion, region, sexual orientation, or marital status.
For girls under the age of 18, institutions and authorities established under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 linked with the OSC.
Finance
The scheme will be funded by the Nirbhaya Fund. The Central Government will provide full financial assistance under the Scheme.
Management
The day-to-day implementation and administrative matters would be handled by the District Collector/District Magistrate.
The OSC will improve access to emergency response and rescue services, medical assistance, assistance for women in filing FIR/NCR/DIR, psychosocial support/counselling, legal aid and counseling, shelter, and a video conferencing facility.
