The Alpenglow

Alpenglow is a natural phenomenon where the sun illuminates mountain slopes during sunrise or sunset. The slopes turn a rosy, reddish, or orange color depending on the angle of the sun and the atmospheric conditions. It takes place during the twilight hours before or after sunset. It can also occur within the first few minutes of the sun rising or setting. Alpenglow typically appears in shades of red, pink, and orange. This is because the longest warm rays of electromagnetic waves (light) reach a variety of surfaces, whereas cold rays are shorter and disappear faster in the atmosphere. Its vibrancy and colour are determined by the location of the sun, the angle of the light, and other atmospheric conditions such as clouds, humidity, and particulates. It can fluctuate rapidly depending on how quickly the sun sets on any given day.
