District Magistrate Orders All Schools in Uttar Pradesh to Conduct Online Classes Until February 3, Due To Cold Waves

As the cold wave continues to hit Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow's district administration has ordered all schools to conduct online classes until February 3, 2024. According to the most recent notification, schools offering offline classes will only be open from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts thick fog in north India over the next five days. The district administration's decision comes amid harsh weather and dense fog. The authorities have also included several guidelines in their official notice that schools must strictly adhere to.

The school administration is responsible for making adequate arrangements to protect students from the cold in the classrooms. Room heaters must be installed to keep the classrooms at the appropriate temperature. The school administration must ensure that students are not forced to sit outside or in the open for classes or practical exams.  The requirement to wear school uniforms has also been removed. Students can wear warm clothes to school.

The Closure Of Schools In Uttar Pradesh

Previously, schools in Lucknow and Agra were closed for students in class 1 to 8. The District Magistrates had issued an order to close schools in Lucknow until January 27, 2024, and Agra until January 24, 2024. The Lucknow DM's order also directed all schools from nursery to class 12 to close and operate entirely online. Meanwhile, the District Magistrate of Agra has ordered the closure of schools from nursery to class 8, as well as changes in class timings from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

District officials are taking steps to protect students and staff from the region's harsh weather conditions. When the situation returns to normal, all schools will resume operations in physical mode. Meanwhile, school administrators are expected to follow the district administration's strict guidelines.
