Description
BITS Pilani alumni Pratul Shroff has contributed $1 million to the endowment fund. Shroff is a 1971 batch member who previously served as the founder and CEO of Einfochips. An additional 4.5 crore will be provided over five years to establish ten 100% fellowships to support research at BITS Pilani and ten 100% scholarships for meritorious students from economically disadvantaged families.
Shroff's KR Shroff Foundation, founded in remembrance of his father, brings to life his vision and philosophy that "societal change begins from the ground up." He founded KRSF as a way to make a difference in society.
The initial attempt was to provide quality education to children from rural marginalized communities and to raise awareness about the necessity of educating their children, according to a BITS Pilani statement.
While expressing his motivation Pratul said, “I’m thankful to BITS Pilani for the critical role it played in shaping my life. Its strong emphasis on physics and math was instrumental in deepening my interest in modern physics and quantum physics. It’s my pleasure to contribute to the Alma mater. I believe it’s my duty to give back to the institution that gave me so much. On a broader context, I believe very strong and advanced institutions are a must for a bright future of any country."
The total revenues raised by BITS Pilani alumni and CSR funding in the fiscal year 2022-23 exceeded Rupees 32 crore for various programs, according to the institute.
