Description
The Odisha government has declared a holiday for all educational institutions on January 27, 2024, to mark the launch of the Samaleswari Temple Area Management and Local Economy Initiatives (SAMALEI) project in Sambalpur. This initiative will be launched by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The state government made this decision to encourage public participation in the event. This day is also the fourth Saturday of the month, so government offices will be closed. The inauguration ceremony began on January 22 and will end on January 26, 2024. The water collected by women during the Kalash Yatra will be used for the Goddess' holy bath.
SAMALEI Project Information
On February 17, 2021, CM Patnaik unveiled the SAMALEI project, a plan to restore the Goddess Samaleswari shrine in Sambalpur. The state government spent over Rupees 200 crore on this massive project. The renovation will include the creation of a heritage corridor, the development of the Mahanadi riverfront, and modern facilities.
Odisha Schools Closed Due To Srimandir Parikrama Project Launch
Previously, the Odisha government declared a public holiday on January 17, 2024, to commemorate the Srimandir Parikrama Project's inauguration. The decision was made as devotees from across the state were expected to attend the Jagannath Heritage Corridor project's inauguration.
