Description

Following numerous complaints from parents and affected students, the Ministry of Education (MoE) issued guidelines for coaching centres. Student suicides, fire incidents, inadequate facilities in centers, and institutional teaching methodologies have all increased over time.

According to a recent announcement, coaching centres cannot enroll students under the age of 16, make false claims, or guarantee a specific rank or high grades. These regulations aim to govern coaching institutes using a legal framework that has previously operated unregulated.

To ensure proper monitoring of coaching institutes, the government has proposed that new and existing centres be registered within three months of the guidelines taking effect.

Ministry Of Education Guidelines

  • The Ministry has announced guidelines to help protect the interests of students enrolled in coaching centers.  No coaching center shall employ tutors with degrees less than graduation. Educational institutions are not permitted to make misleading promises or promise rank or good grades to parents in exchange for enrolling students in coaching centres.

  • The institutes do not accept students under the age of 16. The enrollment process can only begin after the student has completed his/her secondary school examination.

  • Coaching institutes cannot publish or participate in the publication of any misleading advertisement relating to any claim, directly or indirectly, about the quality of coaching, the facilities provided, or the outcome obtained by such coaching centre or the student who attended such class.

  • A coaching institute will not be registered unless it has a counselling system that meets the requirements of these guidelines. Coaching centres are also expected to take steps to ensure students' mental health and to conduct classes without putting them under undue stress.

  • The centers must have a website that details every aspect of their institution, including tutor qualifications and fee structures. The document also states that if a student has paid the full amount for a particular course and leaves in the middle of the prescribed period, he or she will be refunded the remaining period on a pro-rata basis within 10 days from the fees deposited earlier.
