The Ministry of Science and Technology has invited applications for the DBT - Research Associateship Programme, which provides opportunities for postdoctoral research in biotechnology and life sciences. Prospective candidates who meet the eligibility requirements can apply online via official website, with the deadline set for February 15.
This associateship is valid in prestigious research institutions and universities, as well as non-profit Research and Development (R&D) institutions throughout India. The programme is part of the "DBT-Research Associateship" initiative, which is supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology's Department of Biotechnology.
Fellowship Objective
The DBT-Research Associateship (DBT-RA) program is designed to train and support young researchers and scientists, resulting in a large pool of skilled professionals in modern biology and biotechnology. The ultimate goal is to build a strong postdoctoral foundation to support the growth of the country's biotechnology sector.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must have a PhD in Science or Engineering, or an MD/MS degree in any medical field, with research interests in Biotechnology and Life Sciences and a strong academic record. Candidates who have already submitted their PhD/MD/MS theses are also eligible, but will receive a reduced fellowship until they complete the required degree.
How To Apply?
Interested candidates should go to the DBT-RA online Portal, register, and fill out the online application form, which includes sections for personal information, academic qualifications, proposed research work, and mentor information.
Age Limit
As of the application deadline, the maximum age for male candidates is 40, and for female candidates it is 45.
Employment
Candidates who are currently employed (in any capacity, whether permanent or contractual) are eligible to apply, but must resign before accepting the fellowship.
Duration
The Associateship is a two-year, full-time commitment that can be renewed annually based on research progress. In exceptional cases, the fellowship can be extended for up to four years based on research progress.
Guidelines For Fellowship
A candidate can only apply for the DBT-RA fellowship once in their career. The fellowship is only valid in India, at recognized academic institutions, national laboratories, and other R&D institutions. The host institution must provide administrative and infrastructure support.
Fellows are prohibited from collaborating with their PhD guides/co-guides. The fellowship cannot be pursued at the same institution where the candidate received their PhD, MD, or MS degree.
A mentor can have up to two DBT-RA fellows at once and must hold a regular academic/research position in a recognized Indian institution with a PhD/MD/MS degree. Superannuated faculty can mentor if they demonstrate the availability of resources and labs.
Candidates from the North East Region (NER) may work at any university or institution in the country. The research grant can be used to cover minor equipment, consumables, contingencies, and domestic travel as part of the programme.
