Description
The main change is the admission of students who are not majoring in biology to the medical education program. Students who complete their 10+2 education with major subjects in math, chemistry, and physics can now apply for NEET (UG).
The requirement is to pass an exam in biology or biotechnology as an extra subject at the 10+2 level from any recognized board. On the other hand, candidates will be able to receive an eligibility certificate from the commission, which is an official record proving their eligibility to study medicine abroad as an undergraduate.
Because many countries require Indian students to take the NEET exam in order to be admitted to medical schools, this is a significant step forward. However, students who had not studied biology in school often struggled to meet the exam requirements. This barrier will be removed by the new policy, allowing more students to pursue their dreams of studying abroad to become physicians.
Many international medical schools require students to have a strong biological background before beginning their studies. These students will have more options available to them if they can complete this requirement through additional education after class 12.

Will NExT Replace NEET PG?
The National Exit Test (NExT) will replace both the NEET PG and the FMG, which is taken by foreign medical graduates. This single exam aims to streamline and standardize medical education across the country, which is a positive step.
The NExT exam structure consists of two essential steps. First, NExT Step 1 is a theory-focused Computer-Based Test (CBT) consisting of six papers covering MBBS/Final MBBS subjects. Candidates are free to attempt this stage multiple times.
NExT Step 2 is a practical examination that covers seven clinical topics. This phase takes place in person and is overseen by the relevant health institutions or universities. Similar to Step 1, candidates can retake Step 2 until they achieve the desired result. Crucially, candidates must complete both Steps 1 and 2 within ten years of beginning the MBBS program.
The NMC's decision is a positive step that will benefit the medical field as a whole, and future generations of physicians in particular. It is a step toward a more inclusive and adaptable educational system that will allow students to pursue their passions while also making a significant social contribution.
