This judgment, effective January 16, 2024, follows a direction from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). It corresponds with the Aadhaar Act, 2016, which does not recognize Aadhaar as proof of date of birth.

Rationale The UIDAI underlines that Aadhaar is essentially an identity verification tool, rather than a proof of birth. This is confirmed by a memorandum from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and a Bombay High Court judgment.

Alternatives For Date Of Birth Proof
Following the abolition of Aadhaar, the EPFO currently accepts the following papers as proof of date of birth-
Birth certificates are issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths.
A marksheet issued by a recognized government board or university.
School Leaving Certificate (SLC)/School Transfer Certificate (TC)/SSC certificate with name and date of birth.
Certificate based on service records from Central/State Government Organizations.
In the absence of the above documents, a medical certificate issued by a civil surgeon is backed by an affidavit.
Passport.
PAN was granted by the IT Department.
Central/State Pension Payment Order.
The government issues CGHS, ECHS, and Medi-Claim cards.
Domicile Certificate??.
