The Karnataka Forest Department has recently begun collecting a green levy of Rupees 10 from two-wheelers and Rupees 20 from four-wheelers entering BR Hills via the BRT Tiger Reserve.

About Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple (BRT) Tiger Reserve

• It is located in the Karnataka state district of Chamarajanagar.

• The name 'BILIGIRI' comes from a white rocky cliff that houses a temple dedicated to Lord 'VISHNU', also known locally as 'Rangaswamy'.

• This one-of-a-kind bio-geographical entity, located in South India between the Western and Eastern Ghats, was designated as a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1974. In 2011, BRT Wildlife Sanctuary was designated as a Tiger Reserve.

• Vegetation BRT Tiger Reserve's forests are predominantly dry deciduous, with areas of moist deciduous, semi-evergreen, evergreen, and shola occurring at varied altitudes.

• Flora Anogeissus latifolia, Dalbergia paniculata, Grewia teliaefolia, Terminalia alata, Terminalia bellirica, Terminalia paniculata, and others are among the prominent species.

• Fauna The Tiger Reserve is home to a variety of animals, including a tiger, elephant, leopard, wild dog, bison, sambar, spotted deer, barking deer, four-horned antelope, sloth bear, wild boar, common langur, bonnet macaque, and many reptiles and birds.
