Description
Power Grid Corporation, a key state-owned enterprise, announced a dramatic shift in leadership on January 1. Ravindra Kumar Tyagi has been named Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), succeeding Sreekant Kandikuppa, who resigned at the age of 65.
Professional And Educational Background
Tyagi, who is 57 years old, brings a plethora of expertise and experience to his new position. He graduated from Punjab Engineering College (PEC) in Chandigarh with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He expanded his knowledge by earning an MTech in Energy Studies from the reputed IIT Delhi. His academic credentials are strengthened further by his position as a 'Fulbright Scholar' from Carnegie Mellon University in the United States.
Diverse Power Sector Experience
Tyagi has worked in the power sector for almost 33 years, holding numerous critical roles in central public sector undertakings (CPSUs). His career at POWERGRID is distinguished by his ability in managing multifunctional projects in many business sectors such as Asset Management, Engineering, and Business Development, both locally and internationally.
Contributions As An Operations Director
Tyagi was the Director (Operations) of POWERGRID before being promoted to CMD. In this capacity, he played a critical role in the company's operations, considerably contributing to its growth and success. His leadership in the North Eastern Region of POWERGRID is especially significant.

Tyagi is not only an experienced professional, but also an active contributor to the academic community. He has written and presented over 50 technical papers at national and international conferences.
