The day was celebrated with zeal and a renewed commitment to strengthening India's defense capabilities.

Celebration Highlights

Tributes To Visionaries

  • The festivities began with floral tributes to former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the "Missile Man of India," and Dr. VS Arunachalam, the former DRDO chief. Their contributions to India's military prowess were remembered and celebrated.

Chairman's Address

  • DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V Kamat addressed the DRDO fraternity, highlighting the organization's accomplishments in 2023. He emphasized the successful delivery and induction of several critical systems, including missiles, radars, and communication equipment.

  • Dr. Kamat emphasized the significance of Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defense production. He emphasized the unprecedented Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) granted in 2023 for DRDO-developed systems worth more than Rupees. 1.42 lakh crore. This was a significant step toward reducing India's reliance on foreign imports and strengthening its defense manufacturing capabilities.

New Software Launched

  • The Chairman also unveiled the Quantity-Distance Software developed by HEMRL Pune. This software automates the placement of explosives and related structures, increasing efficiency and safety in the military.

The DRDO's History and Achievements

DRDO has played a critical role in developing and deploying cutting-edge defense technologies over the last 66 years. Among its major accomplishments are:

  • Missile Systems

Design and manufacture of strategic missiles such as Agni, Agni-II, Agni-III, Agni-IV, and Agni-V, as well as tactical missiles such as Prithvi, Trishul, and Akash.

  • Radar Systems

Advanced radars such as 3D AESA radars, Swordfish, and Rohini are being developed to provide enhanced air defense capabilities.

  • Electronic Warfare Systems

The development of electronic warfare systems such as EW suites for aircraft and ships, radars, and jammers to ensure battlefield information superiority.

  • Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas

Development and production of the Indian Air Force's indigenous LCA Tejas, a multirole fighter aircraft.

  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)

Design and manufacture of various UAVs used for surveillance, reconnaissance, and target acquisition.

Future Vision And Challenges Of The DRDO

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the incorporation of AI into various defense systems in order to improve decision-making and automation.

  • Hypersonic Technologies missile and vehicle development for high-speed strike capabilities.

  • Research and development of directed energy weapons such as lasers for precise and non-lethal targeting.

  • Cybersecurity measures must be strengthened to protect critical defense infrastructure from cyberattacks.
