On December 13, 2023, Cyclone Jasper made landfall in northern Australia, bringing devastating gusts of up to 113 kilometers (70 miles) per hour and torrential rains that caused flash floods. While it has now weakened to a low-pressure system, it is critical to remain aware and cautious about the ongoing consequences.

  • Thousands of homes and businesses were left without electricity, and some areas are still without power.

  • In the affected areas, transportation and communication were hampered by flash flooding and damaged infrastructure.

  • Although there were no recorded casualties, homeowners are advised to exercise caution due to potential hazards such as fallen trees and debris.

Michaung Cyclone

Cyclone Michaung did make landfall in Andhra Pradesh on December 5th, 2023, however it has since weakened and become a depression. It's worth noting that it's December 29th, 2023, and the cyclone is no longer a threat.

Cyclone Michaung's Impact

  • On December 5th, it made landfall on the Bapatla shore, bringing severe gusts (up to 110 kmph) and heavy rainfall.

  • 25 villages were inundated, 770 kilometers of road were damaged, and trees were uprooted.

  • Unfortunately, 9 individuals died as a result of the storm and its aftermath.

  • In numerous regions, power and communication were disrupted.

Cyclone 'Midhili'

"Cyclone 'Midhili' Makes Landfall" may sound like a recent event, but it happened in November 2023. On November 17th, 2023, Cyclone Midhili made landfall on the Bangladesh coast, bringing torrential rain and winds of up to 80 kmph. It's worth noting that today, December 29th, 2023, there are no active cyclones in the Bay of Bengal region.

Cyclone Hamoon, a severe meteorological event, slammed Bangladesh's southeastern coast on October 25, 2023, sparking widespread fear and forcing the evacuation of thousands of people. The storm, which originated in the Bay of Bengal, has generated fresh concerns about the region's increasing frequency and intensity of such weather events, which are being exacerbated by the effects of climate change. The India weather Department (IMD) is actively monitoring this weather phenomenon, which is predicted to weaken in the next hours.

Tej,  Cyclone

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning about a probable cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea. This impending weather phenomenon, dubbed 'Cyclone Tej,' has the potential to affect Mumbai, Pune, and other parts of Maharashtra and the Konkan region. According to the IMD, the low-pressure system that is now forming over the Arabian Sea will deepen into a depression by October 21.

Cyclone Biparjoy

On June 15, 2023, a cyclone named Biparjoy made landfall in Gujarat, India. Maximum sustained winds were 167 kilometers per hour (103 miles per hour), with gusts reaching 200 kilometers per hour (124 miles per hour). The cyclone dumped heavy rains and high gusts over Gujarat, causing significant destruction. At least 22 people were murdered, and 940 communities were completely blacked out. The cyclone also wreaked havoc on crops and infrastructure.

Fabien Cyclone

On April 17, 2023 morning, Tropical Cyclone Fabien moved southeast of Diego Garcia. Tropical Cyclone Fabien's center was located at latitude 9.0°S and longitude 73.6°E on Wednesday, about 145 miles (235 km) southeast of Diego Garcia. Fabien was traveling at a pace of 6 mph (10 km/h) toward the southwest. The maximum sustained wind speed was 110 miles per hour (175 kilometers per hour), with gusts reaching 130 miles per hour (210 kilometers per hour). The lowest surface pressure measured was 959 mb.

Mocha Cyclone

Cyclone Mocha was a powerful cyclonic storm that formed on May 10, 2023 in the Bay of Bengal. Before making landfall in Bangladesh on May 14, the storm had swiftly developed, attaining peak winds of 160 kilometers per hour (100 miles per hour). The storm wreaked havoc in Bangladesh and Myanmar, killing at least 100 people and displacing millions more. Cyclone Mocha was named after a request made by Yemen.
