Description
The Karnataka state government has decided to reduce the size of textbooks in an attempt to lighten students' school bags and physical burden. The textbooks have been reduced in size by 50%.
Although the students' syllabus has not been reduced or any existing chapters removed, the textbooks have simply been divided into two. This measure was implemented for students in class 1 to 10, starting with the 2024- 2025 academic year. Students will receive two books per subject, according to official orders. The syllabus is divided into Summative Assessments 1 and 2.
The decision was made after reviewing the recommendations of a committee formed in 2019. The committee included education experts, pediatricians, doctors, legal advisors, and officials from the Department of State Education Research and Training.

Classes 3 to 5 | 2 to 3 kg |
Classes 6 to 8 | 3 to 4 kg |
