Description
Kanchan Devi, a Madhya Pradesh cadre Indian Forest Service Officer from the 1991 batch, has been appointed as the Director General (DG) of the Indian Council of Forestry Research Education (ICFRE). Kanchan is the first woman officer to hold this important post in the premier council of the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change.
ICFRE’s Role
The ICFRE headquarter, located in Dehradun, is critical in advising the Government of India, state governments, and numerous stakeholders on forestry research and technologies, including farmers, industry, and academicians. It explores emerging problems in the realm of forest conservation.
A Successful Career
Kanchan has almost 30 years of experience in numerous aspects of forestry, including forest management, administration, education, human resource development, research, and extension. She has contributed to forestry education as a faculty member at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA) in Dehradun.
