Scientists have officially established the existence of a new species known as Santjordia pagesi.
About Santjordia Pagesi
Santjordia pagesi, often known as the St. George's Cross medusa jellyfish, is a recently found jellyfish species.
It is classified as "rare" and has only been discovered in the Sumisu Caldera near the Ogasawara Islands, approximately 600 miles southeast of Tokyo, Japan.
In Catalan, "Santjordia" refers to Saint George and represents its cross-shaped stomach.
Features
At 4 inches wide and 3 inches tall, it is considered huge.
It has a round body with approximately 240 tentacles.
Its body resembles a see-through pillow. It has a thick white ring around the bottom edge.
From its massive center stomach to the outer ring, smaller vein-like structures stretch.
The bright red, cross-shaped stomach is its most distinguishing feature.
The jellyfish's unique characteristics suggest that it may have a novel cnidarian venom.
About Jellyfish
A jellyfish is a type of marine animal that belongs to the phylum Cnidaria, which also includes sea anemones, sea whips, and corals.
Jellyfish body components, like all members of the phylum, radiate from a central axis.

Jellyfish tentacles contain small stinging cells that shock or paralyze their victims before they devour them.
Their mouth is located inside their bell-shaped body. They consume and dispose of trash from this the opening.
