B. N. Goswamy, a well-known art historian and prolific writer, died on November 18  at the age of 90 at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh. B. N. Goswamy, who was born on August 15, 1933, was a Padma Shri and a Padma Bhushan recipient, both for his outstanding contributions to the area of art history. His specialty was painting in the Pahari style, and his body of work has served as a reference for both researchers and aficionados.

The Pahari Maestro

Mr. Goswamy wrote more than 26 volumes on a variety of subjects, including Pahari paintings, miniature paintings, court artists, and Indian painting masters. His attention to elucidating the subtleties of the Pahari style made him a recognized figure, affecting the conversation about Indian art history.

Academic Achievement And Fellowships

After finishing his academic career, Punjab University granted the title of Emeritus Professor on Goswamy. He won prestigious fellowships at various times, including the Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship from 1969 to 1970 and the Sarabhai Fellowship in 1994. He was also a Mellon Senior Fellow at the National Humanities Center in North Carolina.

Civilian And Government Honors

In 1998, the Government of India awarded him the civilian Padma Shri award in recognition of his extraordinary services. Furthermore, Goswamy was honored again in 2008 when he was named to the Republic Day Honours list, this time he was honored for the prestigious Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian honor.
