The arrangement allows HAL to manufacture high-temperature resistant composite parts critical for the LCA Mk1A fighters, satisfying the IAF squadrons' initial demands.
Composite Structure Innovations
For the first time in India, CSIR-NAL has developed a process method for manufacturing High Temperature Resistant Co-cured Composite Structures utilizing Carbon-BMI Prepreg. These are made to withstand service temperatures of roughly 200 degrees Celsius.
Challenges In Processing
Carbon-BMI processing provides issues due to its low viscosity at high temperatures, necessitating careful resin containment within the laminate. Furthermore, the release of volatiles and moisture during curing necessitate adequate ventilation in order to eliminate flaws such as voids and delaminations.
