Description

From November 6th to 12th, 2023, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs will begin the Swachh Diwali Subh Diwali Campaign as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0, with the goal of celebrating Diwali in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner. It emphasizes the necessity of using local products, eliminating single-use plastic, and keeping the festival clean before, during, and after the event.

Objective Of Swachh Diwali Subh Diwali Campaign

The Swachh Diwali Subh Diwali Campaign promotes a clean and eco-friendly Diwali celebration. It aims to create awareness and urge people to buy locally made goods, avoid using single-use plastic, and prioritize cleanliness before and after Diwali. This campaign seeks to instill a sense of environmental responsibility while also aligning the cultural significance of Diwali with the Swachh Bharat mission and the Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) concepts.

The Signature Drive

For the 'Swachh Diwali Subh Diwali' Signature Campaign, the Swachh Bharat Mission has collaborated with MyGov, the government's citizen involvement website. Citizens are asked to join this national initiative to demonstrate their commitment to a clean, green, and single-use plastic-free Diwali. Citizens can sign up for a Swachh Diwali on MyGov from November 6th to November 12th, 2023. They can also film their unique Swachh Diwali endeavors in a 30-second video reel and upload it on social media channels with the hashtag #Swachh Diwali, tagging the official handles of SBM Urban 2.0 - @sbmurbangov.

Community Involvement And 3R’s Concept

Cleaning and misting operations in urban areas have been advised before and after Diwali. Various civic organizations will lend their support to the Signature Campaign, allowing community engagement and pledging their commitment to a clean and green Diwali. To promote the notion of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R) among citizens, local governments might set up donation collecting sites at Resource Recovery and Recycling (RRR) Centers.

Collaboration For A Cleaner Diwali

Central Ministries, State Governments, Union Territories, all governmental offices, district administrations, and local bodies will collaborate with Market Associations, Trade Associations, business bodies, Resident Welfare Associations, Ward Committees, Self Help Groups, NGOs and CSOs, and Youth Clubs to raise awareness about various aspects of cleanliness. This involves encouraging waste segregation, implementing the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle principles, and transforming waste into wealth.

Sanitation Workers' Protection

Sanitation personnel will be given additional care and safety precautions in cities with high Air Quality Index (AQI). This involves providing suitable face masks, eye protection, and safety equipment. They may also be given locally created products as a show of appreciation for their tireless efforts to make their Diwali festivities extra spectacular.
