This project, a 50 MW wind farm in Dayapar, Kutch, Gujarat, is a first in India's renewable energy journey.
The Maiden Project At Dayapar
On November 4, 2023, NTPC REL's debut project, a 50 MW wind farm in Dayapar, Kutch, Gujarat, began commercial operations. Dayapar Wind is notable for being India's first commercial capacity to be declared commercial under the new Indian Electricity Grid Code and General Network Access Regime.
Increasing The Portfolio Of Renewable Energy
Dayapar Wind's commissioning is only the first stage in NTPC REL's ambitious expansion strategy. Currently, the corporation has 15 other renewable energy projects in various phases of completion, totaling 6,210 MW. These projects have the potential to considerably increase NTPC Group's renewable energy capacity.
Increasing The Wind Portfolio
In addition to the 50 MW Dayapar project, the Dayapar Wind Complex will significantly expand NTPC REL's wind portfolio. When completed, this complex would add 450 MW to NTPC's existing wind capacity of 100 MW, boosting the company's position in the wind energy market.
Green Hydrogen Technology Investment
NTPC REL's activities are not limited to wind and solar energy. Recognizing the growing importance of hydrogen as a clean energy source, the corporation is also investing in green hydrogen technologies. NTPC REL is establishing a significant green hydrogen capacity in Ladakh using the microgrid principle, contributing to India's sustainable energy future.
NTPC Green Energy Ltd. (NGEL)
NGEL, another wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC, has made significant contributions to the NTPC Group's renewable energy capability. NGEL has already installed 2,711 MW of renewable energy capacity and is currently working on two significant projects: a 40 MW solar project in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, and a Hydrogen Hub in Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh.
A Consistent Path To A Greener Future
In October 2020, NTPC REL was established as a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC, with a stated objective to accelerate the installation of renewable energy capacity within the NTPC Group. NTPC intends to achieve a record 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032 as part of its long-term growth strategy. The corporation is well on its way to meeting this ambitious target, with a pipeline of more than 20 GW of renewable energy capacity.
