The Prime Minister's Research Fellowship has been awarded to 14 Banaras Hindu University research scholars.
The students who have been choosen for the current cycle of PMRF are Bandan Kumar, Aindabi Maitra, Kuhoo Madhav, R B Ananth, Raju Rai, and Sudipa Bhunia (Dept. of Geology), Deepika Sharma, Karmdeo Prajapati, Nikhil Srivastav, and Ritesh Tolani (Dept. of Chemistry), Ankita Gupta (Institute of Environment & Sustainable Development), Garima Kandwal (Dept. of Biochemistry), Prashasti Pandey (Dept. of Botany), and Syona Tiwari (Dept. of Bioinformatics).
As part of the scheme, selected research scholars are awarded a competitive fellowship as well as a research contingency grant. The fellowship payment is Rupees 70,000 per month for the first two years, Rupees 75,000 per month for the third year, and Rupees 80,000 per month for the fourth and fifth years.
Researchers are also eligible for a research contingency grant of Ruees 2 lakh each year throughout the fellowship. Candidates are chosen through a rigorous selection process at the national level.
This scheme, which is only available to a small number of Central Universities, aims to promote high-quality research. This plan, which was introduced in the 2018-2019 budget, aims to attract the best personnel into research.
“We have made effective several procedural and structural changes to enable greater representation of BHU in milestone schemes and fellowships. The increased number of PMRF to BHU scholars is reflective of the varsity’s forward looking measures. We hope to further improve our performance in the days to come”, said Vice-Chancellor Professor Sudhir Kumar Jain.
