About Meteor Missile

• Meteor is an active radar-guided, beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM) system of the next generation. 

• MBDA Systems manufactures it for six European countries.

• It is capable of strike many targets at the same time in practically any conditions.

• Primary operators include the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, and Sweden.

Features of Meteor Missile

• It is 3.65m in length and 0.178m in diameter.

• Its combat range is 200 kilometers.

• The missile has a large no-escape zone and is designed for speeds greater than Mach 4.

• It is propelled by a ramjet (solid-fuel variable-flow ducted rocket). It enables the Meteor missile to maintain high speeds on a constant basis.

• Its ramjet air-breathing engine allows the missile to alter its velocity in response to the motions of its target.

• The missile has a blast-fragmentation warhead.

• The missile system has an active radar target seeker, which provides excellent reliability in target recognition, tracking, and classification.

• It has a two-way datalink that allows the launch platform to send target updates or re-targeting while the missile is in flight.

• The datalink can communicate information such as kinematic status. It also notifies the seeker of target acquisition.
