Description

The Maharashtra government has approved two major social initiatives aimed at assisting its inhabitants. These schemes, which are intended to help households with yearly earnings of up to Rs 1 lakh and farmers across the state, are expected to have a significant impact.

Lek Ladki Yojana – Empowering the Girl Child

One of the key initiatives is the Lek Ladki Yojana, also known as the Dear Daughter Scheme. Under this program, the government provides financial support to families with girls. The program aims to reduce the financial burden on families and prevent girls from dropping out of school.

Financial Support for Every Step

The Lek Ladki Yojana provides financial assistance at different stages of a girl's life. The government pays Rs 5,000 at the time of the girl's birth, followed by Rs 6,000 when she takes admission in school, Rs 7,000 when she reaches class 7 and Rs 8,000 when she takes admission in the university. When the girl turns 18, she receives a substantial sum of 75,000 rupees. In total, each girl will receive Rs 1.01 lakh, contributing towards her future aspirations and endeavours.

Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana – Support to Farmers

At the same time, the government approved disbursement of funds to farmers under the Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana. The goal of this program is to provide financial assistance to the state's agricultural community. Around 90 lakh farmers in Maharashtra will benefit from this scheme and will receive an annual payment of Rs 6,000.

Effective Implementation

Both schemes will be implemented from 1 April 2023 and have received full government support. These initiatives reflect the government's commitment to improving the lives of its citizens and promoting education and financial stability.

Prevent School Dropout and Empower Girls

Maharashtra Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare highlighted the objective of the Lek Ladki Yojana. The program aims to prevent girls from dropping out of school due to financial constraints in their families. By providing financial support at various stages of their education, this initiative aims to empower girls and increase their opportunities.

Eligibility and Family Planning

The government's decision states that if a family welcomes one or two girls or a boy and a girl after April 1, 2023, the girl will be eligible for the Lek Ladki scheme. In the case of twins born during a second birth, both children can participate in the program. However, parents of these children must undergo family planning intervention as part of the eligibility criteria.

Support Education and Agriculture

To ensure a smooth training path for the beneficiary girls, the program will transfer the money in installments directly to their bank accounts. This approach aims to ensure that their training is completed without interruption.

Financing for Farmers

Apart from the Lek Ladki Yojana, the Maharashtra government has approved the disbursement of Rs 1,720 crore for the first tranche of funds under the Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana. This funding will be available from April 2023 to July 2023 and will benefit around 90 lakh farmers across the state. The money is deposited directly into farmers' accounts through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS). This initiative will provide much-needed financial support to the farming community of Maharashtra.
