The University Grants Commission (UGC) has extended the deadline for admission to Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Online programs for the July-August 2023 academic session. Admission to these programs has been extended until October 20, 2023. The prior deadline for registering for these programs was September 30.
In an official notification released on the official website, the University Grants Commission said, “UGC has decided to extend the last date of admissions for all HEIs offering ODL and/or online programmes for academic session beginning July-August, 2023 from September 30, 2023 to October 20, 2023.”
Higher education institutions must also publish student admission information on the UGC DEB portal by November 5. If institutes are unable to provide these details on the official website, the commission will take severe action against them.
“UGC shall take punitive action as per Regulation 7 (3) of UGC (ODL programmes and online programmes) Regulations, 2020 and its amendments. Further, UGC has issued a detailed public notice on September 19 informing all stakeholders regarding precautions to be taken by the students before enrolling in programmes offered under ODL and/or online mode,” the notification added.
The deadline for admission to higher education institutions has been extended due to numerous complaints received from these institutes as a result of recent floods in the state, non-declaration of results for the undergraduate program, and delays in admissions in the conventional mode.
The academic year for these courses at higher education institutes will begin in February 2024 and will go through February 2025. The online application gateway will be available beginning October 10, according to the announcement.
Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) who match the eligibility criteria and have already gained UGC accreditation to deliver Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and/or online programs will be able to seek for recognition of additional courses in the academic year 2023-2024. Furthermore, higher education institutions should visit the UGC Distance Education Bureau (DEB) website to learn more about the application fee and to remain up to date on any impending updates or announcements.
