Aditya Puri, former managing director and CEO of HDFC Bank, has joined Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP as a senior adviser. Puri will use his knowledge and experience to assist drive a tech-enabled change in the financial services sector and support projects targeted at increasing financial inclusion in India, according to a statement from Deloitte. Puri joined HDFC Bank in 1994 as CEO and retired after 26 years of service. Manoj Kohli, former CEO of Bharati Airtel and Softbank India, was named senior adviser by Deloitte in June.
About Aditya Puri
In September 1994, Puri took over as CEO of HDFC Bank, a position he transitioned from in October 2020. His 26 years as CEO of HDFC Bank makes him the longest-serving head of a private bank in India.
Before setting up HDFC, he spent more than two decades with Citibank in India, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China. His last role at Citibank was as CEO of Malaysia operations.
Between leaving HDFC and joining Deloitte, Aditya Puri was a senior consultant at the Carlyle Group, where he joined in November 2020. There he advised the private equity team in Asia.
A well-known and respected name in the banking industry, he was once the highest-paid banker in the country. The former MD and CEO of HDFC is a commerce graduate from Panjab University and a chartered accountant.
Puri, born in Gurdaspur in Punjab, has two children: his daughter Amrita and his son Amit. Amrita Puri is a Bollywood actress.
