The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs' National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) has launched Phase II of the 'Amazon Future Engineer Programme.' This unique program will help students at 54 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) located in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Telangana.
A Curriculum Driven by Technology
The Amazon Future Engineer Program introduces a curriculum for advanced block programming and artificial intelligence in this second phase. The goal of this cutting-edge curriculum is to provide tribal students with fundamental tech skills, which are becoming more and more important in the current digital world.
Opening and Exhibition
A three-day in-person teacher training workshop served as the formal ushering in of Phase II. The event included the EMRS Coders Expo, which highlighted the Top 20 Coding Projects from EMRSs over the course of the previous academic year. Anil Kumar Jha, Secretary (Tribal Affairs), presided over the inaugural ceremony, which was held in New Delhi.
Improvements in Coding and AI Learning
The updated module, which builds on the success of the previous year, introduces a customized coding and artificial intelligence (AI) curriculum that is in line with CBSE skill education. This is a supplement to the already available coding, logical ordering, learning loops, and block programming courses. The 20-hour module has been carefully created to fit the current level of exposure tribal students have to computer science and coding.
Progression of Learning Stages
Students in Class 6 begin learning the foundations of computer science as the curriculum progresses. While eighth graders learn the basics of AI, seventh graders are introduced to advanced visual programming concepts. Students start learning about the foundations of AI in grade nine. In the academic year 2024–2025, an AI module for grade 10 will be introduced, aligned with the CBSE skills curriculum.
Removing Obstacles in Education
The large tribal population in India frequently encounters linguistic and cultural barriers to accessing a modern education. Building the local language proficiency of teachers, particularly in tribal communities, will enable them to deliver the curriculum more successfully and prepare tribal students for success in the modern world.
