In a landmark step, the Madhya Pradesh (MP) cabinet, led by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has approved a range of transformative initiatives aimed at tackling critical challenges in the state. Compensation for mob lynching victims, housing projects for homeless families, increased honoraria for guest faculty, flood relief packages, and the growth of public services are among these measures.
Compensation for Victims of Mob Lynching
The MP government has taken a hard stand against the threat of mob lynching by implementing the Mob Lynching Victim Compensation Scheme 2023. Families of victims of mob lynchings will receive substantial financial assistance under this scheme.
Notably, the deceased's kin will receive compensation in the amount of Rs 10 lakh. There will also be provisions for injured victims of such incidents to receive compensation ranging from Rs 4 to Rs 6 lakh. It's crucial to stress that these compensations will cover all mob lynchings, regardless of the reasons why they occurred, including those motivated by elements like religion, caste, language, or any other reason. The plan also addresses mob lynching incidents that involve five or more accused people.
Recent Cases of Mob Lynching
The state government has given addressing this issue top priority in light of recent mob attacks in MP's Khandwa region, including instances where people were attacked for carrying meat or for their social media posts. These occurrences have highlighted how urgent it is to put policies in place to stop mob violence.
Interference of the Supreme Court
Inquiries about lynching prevention efforts by various states, including Madhya Pradesh, were made by the Supreme Court of India in response to growing worries about mob violence. This draws attention to the widespread debate, intense legal scrutiny, and pressing need for preventative action in the face of mob violence.
Additional Honoraria for Visiting Faculty
The cabinet has decided to double the honorarium paid to visiting faculty in recognition of their important contributions to the field of education. This action recognizes guest teachers' contribution to the state's educational system while also enhancing their financial well-being. Notably, 4,500 guest teachers at various grade levels will benefit from this choice.
Updated Honoraria Figures
Class One: Increased from Rs 9,000 to Rs 18,000
Class Two: Increased from Rs 7,000 to Rs 14,000
Class Three: Increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000
Housing for Homeless Families
The Mukhyamantri Ladli Behna Housing Scheme has been given cabinet approval in an effort to meet the housing needs of homeless women and families. Those who have not received housing assistance under the housing program of the prime minister are the focus of this initiative. As a result, vulnerable populations will have access to safe housing as the number of beneficiaries is decided based on the applications received.
Package for Flood Relief
The cabinet has also taken action to help 6,700 families living in 22 villages in the areas near the Ken and Betwa rivers that were affected by floods. This unique package aims to lessen the difficulties experienced by flood-affected communities and support their restoration efforts.
Expansion of the Public Services
The cabinet has given its approval for the creation of 435 new positions within the departments of health and education to strengthen the state's educational and medical systems. Additionally, the demand for Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP) for educators, such as teachers, medical professionals, and physicians, has been addressed and approved. These actions show the government's dedication to improving public services and making sure that critical industries have a workforce that is well-supported.
