Description
The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) stated on August 29 that many people are confused about recent circulars addressing minimum attendance criteria in classes 9, 10, 11, and 12.
It is being understood that in order to appear in the Intermediate (Class 12) final exam, a minimum of 75% attendance in both classes 11 and 12 and in both classes 9 and 10 is required, however this 75% attendance criterion is separate for each class and not combined, according to the BSEB.
Furthermore, BSEB said that a Class 11 student must have at least 75% attendance from the first day of courses till the time of final exams. Otherwise, they will be unable to appear in the Class 11 final exam.
The same requirement applies to Class 9 students, and failure to meet it will prevent them from sitting the exam.
The board can forgive shortfalls in both of these provisions up to a maximum of 15%, according to the BSEB.
Students with less than 60% attendance shall be considered for condonation only in extraordinary cases, such as cancer, AIDS, tuberculosis, or other serious illnesses requiring protracted hospitalization.
