The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has begun work on a ground-breaking project to build the 'Likaru-Mig La-Fukche' road in Ladakh's Demchok sector. This vital road would construct the world's highest motorable road, covering an altitude of roughly 19,400 feet, exceeding Umling La Pass's previous record. Enhanced Access to Remote Military installations: The 64-kilometer-long 'Likaru-Mig La-Fukche' route will connect critical military installations in the sensitive Fukche sector. Fukche is strategically important because it is only three kilometers from the contested Line of Actual Control (LAC). The development of the route is projected to improve communication and accessibility to these isolated military installations, ultimately strengthening national security.
Breaking Previous Records: The BRO will shatter its own record for the highest motorable road during the development of the 'Likaru-Mig La-Fukche' road. By exceeding the existing world record altitude of 19,024 feet at Umling La in Ladakh, the BRO exhibits its engineering skill and dedication to improving the region's connectivity and accessibility.
Women-Led Construction Efforts: In an amazing and trailblazing endeavor, an all-female BRO unit is leading the construction of the Likaru-Mig La-Fukche road.
